the problem
The clean energy sector in Kenya presents significant opportunities for economic growth and environmental sustainability. However, it also faces gender disparities and challenges in the participation and leadership of women. These disparities include limited access to training, resources, and leadership roles for women in the sector.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Accelerating Women’s Empowerment in Energy (AWEE) program funded by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Energy Resources (ENR) and implemented by Winrock International seeks to support the empowerment and professional development of women currently working or seeking to work in the clean energy sectors to overcome historic gender-based marginalization, address the barriers to women’s entry, promotion, and retention, and increase women’s participation in the clean energy workforce in Kenya via small grants and dialogues.
With Small Grant funding from AWEE and a blend of expert guidance and support, the programme , the Shared Value Hub team will provide technical assistance, design and deliver climate change and clean energy curriculum, as well as offer coaching and mentorship to a cohort of 20 women enterprises in clean energy hailing from Kenya.
Through this project, we will be developing the leadership capabilities of women entrepreneurs while linking them to other stakeholders in the renewable energy space.
